Preamble: Espresso, or “expresso” as we Americans often pronounce it, is the perfect jolt of energy for the morning or afternoon. Of course some have espresso down to an art, but here’s an easy recipe using a moka pot.

Ingredients for this recipe for 1-2 people:
1/4 c. (30g) finely ground coffee,
How To Make Espresso from scratch:
Fill the bottom part of the moka pot with water. (PAY ATTENTION that the water does not touch or exceed the screw on the inside of the pot.)
Fill the middle part with the coffee grounds, packing it down with a spoon like you see baristas doing when they pack down coffee to make espresso in a coffee shop.
Fit the moka pot back together, ensuring that the top is screwed on tightly.
Place on the stove on medium-high heat.
Listen for a sputtering noise. Once it stops (or you can carefully look to see if the top is full – be careful, it splashes) remove from the stove and serve immediately so that the espresso doesn’t burn.
